Gospel Baptist Church has a small food pantry available for those who are in need. The pantry stocks dry goods such as cereal, soups, vegetables, and other canned goods. Distribution is made by the pastoral staff and on the basis that the need is legitimate. Gospel Baptist Church usually does not issue food stamps, gift certificates, and or coupons. The supplies given to the recipient are to be recognized as a token of one time help and not to be relied on for a week to week basis.
We recommend strong biblical counsel to those who refuse to work and rely on others for their constant supply of food. The Bible does encourage us to help those in need (James 2:15-16: If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?), but it also warns us about those who abuse the “system” as we see in II Thessalonians 3:10: For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.
